You have been to a risk area? Then a test for you is mandatory! Anyone entering from a risk area starting from 8th of August 2020 must either be tested within 48 hours before entry or within 72 hours after entry. Upon return, all travelers who have not tested negative must proceed directly to their destination. Until a negative test result is obtained, travelers must isolate themselves at home for up to 14 days (domestic quarantine). Until October 31, 2020 you can  contact the test center in the security area on the Arrival Level.

Getting tested

There are several possibilities to have yourself tested for free:

Information on the Corona testcenter

You can be tested the airport after your arrival if these three requirements are met:

  1. You have just returned from a risk area listed by the Robert Koch Institute,
  2. You are an EU citizen or have at least one residence in the EU,
  3. After landing, you are still in the security area of Düsseldorf Airport.
Corona tests are intended for incoming passengers fromCorona risk areas considered by the RKI (Robert Koch Institut). They have to be either EU-citizens or must have
their permanent place of residence in the EU. The test will be free of charge for these travelers. Fees are covered by the federal state of North Rhine Westphalia.
Doctors and medical professionals of the Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians are conducting the swabs.
The evidence of Sars-CoV-2 is done by oral and nasal mucosa swabs. Two swabs will be performed: one nasal and an oral one. In the case of an infection the swabs will
contain genetic material of the virus.
Test results should generally be available within three days. The results are provided online by the lab via QR-Code. In case of a positive result, the lab will inform the local Health Office. Staff of the Health Office will promptly contact the traveler by telephone to discuss further actions.
Travelers from risk areas will be able to shorten the required domestic quarantine significantly when receiving a negative test result.
The traveler will be placed in domestic quarantine in case of a positive result even without showing signs of the disease. This rule exists also for all those who had close contact with an infected person. The Health Office will take suitable measures and will monitor their observance.
The test will prove the existence of the virus in a traveler’s body as soon as two to three days after infection which means two to three days after showing first signs of the disease. The virus is basically detectable up to four weeks after an infection. Eventually this time can be even shorter or longer depending on the amount of virus found in a person’s body.
There is no age restriction. Even babies can get tested.
The Corona Test Center is located at the customs area of the terminal building close to baggage belt No. 19. This area is not publicly accessible.
The Corona Test Center will be open as scheduled every day from 6 A.M to 12 P.M. Depending on when the last flight from a risk area arrives and depending on the number of incoming passengers, the center will open or close the doors earlier or even later.
No, a registration prior to the test is not necessary.
A mouth-nose-protection is mandatory to wear at the Corona Test Center as well as in the entire terminal building. If possible bring your Health Insurance Card along. In case your card is not available or for those with private health insurance, simply leave your name, address and mobile phone number. An identity document and your boarding pass are required.
You might share a cabin with maximum three other people belonging to your family or your household.
Unfortunately, this is not possible. After leaving the restricted area of the terminal building, a new access without valid flight ticket and security check is not allowed.
